ehhh…….a bit MUCH don’tchathink? especially since their platforms are basically identical, and especially since Florida and Michigan were discounted, which might have changed things. I was never a big Clinton fan, but it’s amazing how fast you guys turned on her. If I was Hill, I’d pull a Joe Lieberman, run as an Independent and give you all the finger.

how do you know i “turned” on her? i linked to a number of posts where she made me cringe. and the way her campaign has been run — including how she has flipped and weaseled on the handling of michigan and florida — is what this is about, not her policy similarities or differences with obama.

    btw, i am an independent.

I’m sorry, I forgot that being compared to Hitler was considered by most people to be a compliment! :P The Democratic Party has decided to ignore Florida and Michigan. She doesn’t agree with that. Count their votes, that’s all she’s saying. They could afford a re-do if they really wanted. They just want to broker Obama. Believe me, if they are ignored then there will be hell to pay for the Democrats come November.

right, so none of this is based in reality:

Clinton Evokes Bloody Zimbabwe Election Dispute When Discussing Florida and Michigan

    May 21, 2008 10:01 PM

In Florida today, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., vociferously pushed her argument that the disqualified contests in Michigan and Florida should count, even though the DNC said the contests didn’t count, no candidate campaigned in either state, and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., along with many other Democratic candidates, was not even on the Michigan ballot.

“I believe the Democratic Party must count these votes. They should count them exactly as they were cast,” she said in Palm Beach County, per ABC News’ Eloise Harper, apparently meaning that she should receive more than 300,000 votes from Michigan and Obama should receive zero.

In Sunrise, Fla., Clinton assailed countries “where votes don’t count. People go through the motions of an election only to have it discarded and disregarded. We’re seeing that right now in Zimbabwe — tragically an election was held, the president lost, they refused to abide by the will of the people. So we can never take for granted our precious right to vote.”

Almost four dozen people have been killed in Zimbabwe, allegedly by those loyal to Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe after an election dispute in that country.

Which doesn’t really explain why Clinton didn’t make an issue out of Michigan and Florida until it became clear she might not be able to win the nomination without those contests counting.

Or why Clinton campaign senior adviser Harold Ickes, as a member of the DNC’s rules and bylaws committee, voted to not recognize Michigan and Florida’s delegates, thus — I suppose — taking for granted our precious right to vote.

the DMC may have messed up florida and michigan, but it was way before obama was in the lead. clinton’s camp can’t have it both ways. she’s become desperate and pitiful, especially with the comparison to Zimbabwe.

you really can’t see all this as it is?

Granted, the Zimbabwe comparison was a bit melodramatic, but melodramatic indulgences are usually not reason enough to earn a comparison to one of the greatest mass murderers in history. THAT’S melodramatic and just plain rude. Whether she made an issue out of FLA and MI back then or right now is irrelevant to the argument. Their non-participation in the process was still an issue challenging the validity of the nomination. All drama aside, the point she was obviously trying to make was that when all the votes are not counted, bad things happen. Who could argue against that? Obviously not you since you said the DNC “messed up Florida and Michigan”. So……… they need to fix their mess. They have the means to do so. If she’s still behind, then what could she say then? Nothing. We could buy her a ticket back to NY and send her packing. But by counting all the votes they would insure the nomination’s validity and the party’s unity come November.

I can hear McCain’s speech writers now turning out choice phrases about how the DNC doesn’t care about what the voters in FLA and MI think.

“Whether she made an issue out of FLA and MI back then or right now is irrelevant to the argument.”

wrong. on so many levels. her camp was more than willing to agree with the DNC’s decision to punish those states. now, because she didn’t turn out to be the overwhelming winner, and is actually trailing in every way — # primaries won, votes, delegates, super-delegates — she has a complete change in plans.

michigan and florida do need to be represented, but hillary is completely unwilling to bend to the reality of the situation. she’s not willing to agree that out of the >40% “non represented” votes in michigan that obama would have probably received a vast percentage of them.

obama wasn’t on the ballot because he kept to his word! clinton simply wants her votes to count, straight-up, after reneging on an agreement to not get on the ballot.

she wants all or nothing. that’s completely unrealistic and couldn’t possibly represent the voting intent of the public.

bill bradley was right about the DNC a few years ago, and hillary is proving to be the poster child.

Hillary is not Hitler, but she is not exactly Mother Theresa either. She’s a political streetfighter who has lied through her teeth and played rough to get where she is. I agree that her wanting FLA and MI to represent is about her and nobody else. You don’t have to belabor that fact. She was wrong, along with Obama and the rest of the DNC to deny them their vote. HOWEVER…… if you don’t give them their vote on the democratic nomination, they will be pissed. You are giving the Republicans ammunition that they will surely use against Obama in November.

“she’s not willing to agree that out of the >40% “non represented” votes in michigan that obama would have probably received a vast percentage of them. ”
“that’s completely unrealistic and couldn’t possibly represent the voting intent of the public.”

You know Sean, if you have a crystal ball over there then please start posting some winning stock tips and lottery numbers so we can all get rich. Otherwise, you don’t know what the voters would have done anymore than the rest of us would.

Look, what’s the downside to re-doing the FLA and MI primaries besides some more money and time spent? Obama is just going to win anyway right? So what are you afraid of? Let his victory and her defeat be total and complete. No question marks, gray areas, or vagueness to sully the nomination.

excuse me while i go have a life. i’m feeling a bit like a runner in the 100 yard dash at the special olympics right now.

    congrats, you get the gold.

    sieg heil!!!

You know, right before I grudgingly logged back in, I was thinking about that very same Special Olympics analogy. For real. But imagine my elation when you finally saw that I was correct all along. It feels great to be able to educate your fellow man. It almost makes it worth it! I’ll display the medal proudly beside my many others ;)
